Dennis Brown was the Crowned Prince of Reggae. He began performing in the 1960's at the age of 10, and shared the stage in Jamaica with American Soul stars like King Curtis, Jr. Walker, The Sweet Inspirations, Nina Simone, and more. He charted a string of hits by the age of 16 that were either covers of American soul songs, or originals sung with a heavy soul influence. This compilation comes from this stage of his career, when his producer was Derrick Harriott. This is straight-up early roots reggae from the early 1970's sung by one of the most dynamic and popular voices in Jamaican music history! This stuff rivals his more popular later songs, and truly shows his soulful early reggae roots.
