Hope this is cool to post...

Slackers recorded in Syracuse, NY at Funk N' Waffles (11/15/07) by permission of the band (thanks, Dave!). The recording courtesy of Retsaot.

Enjoy! (Do not sell this please...but share with other Slack fans!)

Download the .Zip of the Full Show here!

thanks to FileFront for the free hosting.

Note: Its all 320kb mp3s, tracked out and tagged with info in itunes...they played "Everyday is Sunday"(?) -- new slack tunage!

its through the air...but with good equipment (quality mics on a stand...recorded to a tascam DAT 48khz) The show was hard limited in adobe audition to even things out....I am very pleased with the quality for it not being a board recording of any kind.

The only obnoxious part: people chanting OI at the Slackers!?!!? whats up with that ppl!?!?!

funny part in "interlude" where Vic plays with a jazz scat tone on his new roland...plus a great variety of old and new tunes!

This is how I broke it up...

The Slackers – 2007/11/15 Funk N' Waffles, Syracuse, NY

Disc One:
Crazy
She Wants To Be Alone
Propaganda
Feed My Girl Ska
Lil' Joe
I Shall Be Released
Ska Boheme
Fried Chicken/Mary, Mary
Cupid
Married Girl
Yer Still Blue

Disc Two:
Walking On
What Went Wrong
Wanted Man
Everyday is Sunday
Wasted Days
Have The Time
Pedophilia
Interlude
Old Dog
Keep Him Away
I Still Love You

Just the ones on archive.org. I'd still bootleg, but i had my mic stolen and i have a crappy unit. Maybe i can look into that.

So i'm listening to this show right now. I have on "I Shall Be Released". Now i'm a fan of Agent Jay for a long time now, but it just dawned on me what a clever guitar player the guy is. There's a real sweet guitar solo on this particular song and it got me thinking that there really hasn't been much in the way of guitar solos in ska music. Plenty of horn solos, piano/keyboard/organ solos, and even drum solos. Guitar needs to be brought back up front. There's so much room for it. Maybe this is only my own observation though. Maybe i dont know enough about ska guitar.

Now the argument could be, "Well John, that particular song isn't much of a ska tune, and has a bit of an R&B feel and so the guitar was just right for the song."

Damn i'm a rambling idiot.

Thanks for the download though. This is a nice recording. :D

welcome back to some rocksteady guitar stylee! Jay was very ernie ranglin that evening, wasn't he?

It was refreshing to hear Agent Jay blow out some amazing guitar soloing that evening...it really pumped the hell out of my buddy Tom, who is a total stones fan, enjoys a good guitar soloing, and was at his first slackers show! (Hes a cool older dude I have broadened into the world of all things ska/reggae...and is a total convert.)

To that end, thats what I enjoy about the Bluebeats. Its nice to hear the rhythm deviate from the upbeat ska riff and play some good innovative stuff and let others pick up the skank. More bands should do that these days...

ernest ranglins the man. i suggest Below The Bassline. its a jazz album, but he does all jamaican classics instrumental.

and if youw anna hear some amazing guitar work, pick up anything by lynn taitt. its rocksteady, not guitar, but he was absolutely amazing.(he used to guest with the skatalites too.) trojan put out an anthology a year or two ago called Hold Me Tight: antholgoy. its two discs. disc one is all vocal tracks he played on, and disc two is all his intrumentals. he also had an album called rocksteady greatest hits. most of this album is on the anthology, so its kinda obsolete now, but classic nonetheless.

Come see Silver Dollar sometime. I'm gonna be playing more guitar solos in the set starting Sunday in Trenton.
